Rough Landing

Posted by Kmk /dd on Monday, June 8, 2009,
The craft hit the tarmac with a tooth rattling bump. It wasn’t one of the good Captain’s best efforts but then again, he wasn’t in one of his better moods. Capt. M, strode out the Nomade ahead of everyone else. They’d landed at the now disused airport that had once been as busy as L.A.X. It was now closed, except when the Nomade needed to land, for refuelling, or supplies.

A cab ride later, the bedraggled, motley group was in the heart of downtown L.A. Fresh coffee and bagels restored ...

Eggs Benedict

Luca sat bolt upright in bed. The clock on the night stand glowed eerily in the darkness of the cabin. She peered at it, her left hand fumbling for her glasses. “Who’s making that damned racket at 7.30 in the morning?!”  Silence. She turned to her right. John wasn’t there and his side of the bed hardly looked rumpled. She wondered if he actually slept, like normal people.

Another loud bang sounded.

“Goddammit! Can’t a person get some sleep around here?!?” She fastened her robe a...

Exit Nomade

I was bending down, under a crumbling bridge, scratching at the earth. One, two, three...six, petrified onions nestled in the palm of my hand. They were dark, tiny and shrivelled. I looked up at Professor Ponsonby. He removed his pith helmet and dragged his earth crusted hand across his glistening forehead. “That there, my dear, is what this whole dig’s been about.”

“Oooooomph!” My hand reached down to my belly, to dislodge Perry’s very large, very hard knee and push off the covers...

Cook on Strike

I wanted to brush my lips along that angry, throbbing vein but the spark in his eyes told me he wouldn’t welcome it, right now. He stood unmoving, the set of his shoulders making it clear he was expecting an answer and wouldn’t back down.

The woolly robe I had on slipped down my left shoulder, exposing the large bruise that had already formed, courtesy of Thomas. Perry stepped forward and touched it softly. “How’d you get that?” he almost whispered, his expression softening as concer...

That Damned Post-it

Posted by Kmk /dd on Sunday, June 7, 2009,
“Oooph!” Once more, I was on my back, staring at the ceiling of the gym, sweat pouring down my face and body, my shoulder still throbbing from his last two hits. I struggled to my feet and jumped back just before he could land another kick. “Aw, come on Thomas! Gimme a break will ya? I’m a girl, for Pete’s sake I barely reach your shoulder, and I’m not yet a black belt!!” I couldn’t take it anymore and put my hands up in defeat. “Enough! I’m beat! Thanks for the lesson...

A Lurker

Posted by Kmk /dd on Sunday, June 7, 2009,
Dinner last night was a triumph;  Salmon  Escalopes in Lemon and Caper Butter. Everyone loved it only Tom gave it the evil eye and muttered just loud enough for me to know he didn’t like it; not loud enough that I could make out what he said. Cops! *rolls eyes*

Something sinister though, might have been afoot. The galley reeked to high heaven of bleach but not a trace was found.  There was a trail of tiny ash mounds at 3-foot intervals leading from the stove all the way up to the cabins....
